Reintroducing the GLOBE Science Honor Roll

A new and improved Science Honor Roll system is being re-introduced to the GLOBE website. The original recognition system was termed the GLOBE Chief Scientist's Honor Roll. The GLOBE Science Honor Roll is a way for GLOBE to recognize the data contributions of GLOBE students and schools. The more data entries made, the higher the Science Honor Roll level achieved. Workshop Application and News and Events Enhancements

In response to feedback from the GLOBE community, a number of enhancements have been added to the workshop application. Also, changes are coming to the News and Events pages. Read more about these improvements on the lower part of the New and Revised Website Features page.

Join the GPM Master Teachers Cohort for the 2014-2015 School Year

NASA's Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission is looking for a small cadre of "GPM Master Teachers" to help develop and pilot STEM lessons to be used with elementary, middle, and high school audiences. Selected teachers will earn a stipend for their participation, which will run from 1 July 2014 through 1 June 2015. All of the training and participation will be conducted online. It is anticipated that teachers will spend approximately 10 hours per month working on this collaborative project. This is a great opportunity for GLOBE teachers to become involved with this NASA mission. Contact NASA's Janney Dorian if interested. Read more here.

NASA's SMAP Science Team Needs Your Soil Moisture Data

NASA's Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) mission is scheduled to launch in November 2014. The SMAP science team needs soil moisture data collected following a modified soil moisture protocol, the SMAP Block Pattern Soil Moisture Protocol to calibrate and validate the instruments on board the satellite. A test of these measurements will take place during May and June of this year. For more information see the SMAP Satellite Partnership page.

GLOBE Earth System Poster
 

For those who use the GLOBE Earth System poster and related learning activities, a new NASA resource is now available. A digital version of the Earth System poster, which includes monthly data on the 6 Earth system parameters for 2005-2013, is now available from the MY NASA DATA team at NASA Langley Research Center. This digital poster will allow you to extend the learning activities in time, as well as enable new explorations of these data through a web-based Live Access Server. Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Alignment Review

A team of experienced GLOBE Community Members met for a GLOBE/Next Generation Science Standards Alignment Workshop in November 2013. Over the course of two and a half days, they aligned GLOBE learning activities and protocols with NGSS. The resulting documents are now up on the GLOBE website.
