05/03/2011 10:30 MDT - GLOBE is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Andy Tasker of Warwickshire, England, as the new Director of the GLOBE Program Office. Dr. Tasker has been an influential member of the GLOBE Program in Europe for ten years, serving as UK Country Coordinator since 1997 and as Chairman of the European Regional Board GLOBE International Advisory Committee (GIAC) representative for Europe and Eurasia from 2008 to 2010. He will assume his new role on 6 June 2011, bringing a depth of understanding of the scope and potential of GLOBE that should well serve the entire GLOBE community.
Dr. Tasker’s career in nature conservation and environmental education spans four decades. Until recently, he served as Chief Executive of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust working to protect nature reserves and to encourage people to both enjoy and value the natural world. He was also Chief Executive of its ecological consultancy company. Concurrently, Dr. Tasker was involved with Middlemarch Environmental Ltd, which provides a range of commercial biodiversity services to business and the public sector. Prior to his work in nature conservation, he served ten years as Senior Lecturer in Ecology at Coventry University.
Note: Deliberations in the international search have been in process since mid-February. The appointment of Dr. Tasker is the result of an international search led by UCAR Vice President Dr. Jack Fellows with advisement from a nine-member committee, the Selection Advisory Group.
