11/30/2011 16:00 MST - Dr. Mekuria Argaw, member of the Science Faculty at Addis Ababa University and Country Coordinator of GLOBE in Ethiopia, recognizes the added value of GLOBE in his country's science curriculum. “Currently, we have a new education policy that requires 70 percent of higher education enrollment to be in the science fields,” writes Dr. Argaw. “This is a huge task and requires us to prepare students at the high school level with a solid science background. The standard curriculum promotes more theory than hands-on learning. GLOBE fills this gap and provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn science in a more practical manner.“

Kilimanjaro. The trek will begin on Thursday 22 September. The team at Base Camp will be communicating with the Xpedition team on the mountain and updating the Xpedition Journal each day by approximately 14:00 GMT. 03/02/2011 11:00 MDT -  Ms. Mary  Kivaria has been involved with GLOBE for more than a decade, serving since 1997 as the first GLOBE Country Coordinator in Tanzania. In 2003, she was asked to lead the Environmental Education Unit (EEU) for the Ministry of Education and was tasked with monitoring GLOBE activities to promote the environment through active and participatory learning. Since the early days of GLOBE in Tanzania, Mary Kivaria has been a vital force for GLOBE implementation.
