11/01/10 - 08:00 MDT - Madhuranga Rathnayake began his journey with GLOBE in 2004 while a high school student at the Maliyadeva College, in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka. Under the tutelage of Mrs. Nandanee Raneweera, he took part in the very first GLOBE Day and Workshop of Sri Lanka. The following year he helped organize the All Island National GLOBE Campaign to promote awareness about GLOBE activities and objectives and for the next several years, GLOBE workshops, student camps, and campaigns became regular annual events. In 2007, the GLOBE Club of Maliyadeva College ceremoniously launched a website dedicated to furthering information about GLOBE activities in Sri Lanka.

10/01/10 9:00 MDT - Those of you who attended the 14th Annual GLOBE Conference and Workshop in Calgary this past summer will recognize Juan Diego Calvo-Pérez Rodó, GLOBE Alumni from Peru, the youngest and most impassioned speaker at the event in Canada. Just 18 years old, Juan Diego is in his second year of biology studies at La Molina National Agrarian University, Peru's premier institution for study in the fields of agricultural and forestry sciences, located in Lima. Juan Diego, whose interests span international boundaries as a result of his participation in GLOBE, is studying French and Italian as well.

08/31/10 12:01 MDT - Laura Altin comes from the small Estonian town of Kilingi-Nõmme. She was first introduced to GLOBE as a shy 8-year-old, when her mother took her along to the first GLOBE teacher training in Estonia. Now she is an Alumni leader in Estonia and a Regional Representative on the GLOBE Alumni International Advisory Committee.

Tomáš Tunkl currently heads the GLOBE Alumni Network in Europe and Eurasia and is leader of the Czech GLOBE Veterans (Alumni). Currently finishing Law School at the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, Tomas, age 24, has already been involved with GLOBE for more than a decade.

Nineteen-year-old Wajeeha Hussain, GLOBE Alumni Coordinator for the Near East-North Africa Region, has been involved in the GLOBE program since 2004. At a young age she became interested in environmental issues and saw GLOBE as way to work on behalf of the environment. She repeatedly participated in her local GLOBE Science Fair and took first place for her project "Ma'ameer Surrounded." She also played a leadership role in the GLOBE Green Walk for several years. Ms. Hussain has participated in Train the Trainers workshops as a trainer for GLOBE protocols. In addition, she participated in a regional GLOBE conference in State of Qatar as well as an international GLOBE event, the GLE in South Africa.
