WIST : the Web Image Spreadsheet Tool : Help

WIST uses a spreadsheet metaphor to aid browsing scientific datasets or imagery. Images and controls are located in the cells of the spreadsheet, much like a regular spreadsheet on your computer. You can modify the contents of each cell using either the Control Panel, the Column controls or the Row controls. These controls are described below.

To see any changes to the WIST after you have modified some controls, you must select the Refresh button in the Control Panel.

Control Panel The Control Panel is the cell in the top left hand corner of a WIST. Making changes in the Control Panel effects all cells of a WIST. There is a checkbox in the Control Panel to switch display of the Control Panel on and off. If there are no controls in the control panel cell, then display must be switched off. Select the checkbox and then select Refresh. Now there will be various controls available. The two main controls are for rows and columns and these control the number of rows and columns for the WIST display. Other controls in the Control Panel may include X and Y size for the size of each cell, Projection if the WIST supports map projections and Color Bar if the WIST allows color bar display. To close the Control Panel just un-check the box and select Refresh. Control Panel setting are maintained whether the Control Panel is displayed or not.
Column Controls The Column Controls are found at the top of each WIST column. These allow modification of individual colums in a WIST. Typically these controls allow dataset selection and control of other attributes associated with the dataset. Examples include choosing the displayed dataset or changing the color palette used. Some WISTs have an Auto checkbox for automatically scaling the selected dataset into a suitable range of values.
Row Controls The Row Controls are found at the left hand side of each WIST row. These allow modification of individual rows in a WIST. Typically these controls allow date selection or control of some other dataset attribute not found in the Column controls. Other examples include choosing the geographic regions to be displayed.
