Northeast & Mid-Atlantic (U.S.) Regional Science Fair


Teachers, students, US Partnerships, scientists and alumni from the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic geographic area (DE, DC, CT, ME, MD, MA, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VT, VA, WV) are invited to gather and discuss GLOBE student research projects at the first annual US regional conference. This two-day event will include judging of the science fair entries, a tour of NASA Goddard facilities, professional development for teachers and networking opportunities for participants. There will be plenty of time to discuss collaborating within the region too.

Thursday, March 10th Agenda

2:00pm

Check into hotel; Courtyard Silver Spring North (by Marriott) at 12521 Prosperity Dr, Silver Spring, MD 20904

3:15pm

Bus will depart from Silver Spring Marriott for NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (GFSC) in Greenbelt, MD.

**Note:  Please bring science fair projects.  Set up will be Thursday night.

4:00-6:30pm

Reception for teams and partners

Pizza party.  All dietary restrictions will be accommodated.

7:00pm

Bus departs NASA’s GSFC.

7:30-9:00pm

Friday, March 11th Agenda

 

7:00-8:00am

Breakfast at hotel for teams and partners.

8:30am

Bus will depart from Hotel for NASA’s GSFC

Please be on the bus no later than 8:15AM

9:00-9:30am

Student arrive at the Visitor’s Center and prepare.

9:30-11:30am

Science Fair Judging ( judging done by GLOBE partners, staff and scientists)

9:30-12:15pm

Teacher workshop lead by Jessica Taylor in NASA’s GSFC Educator Resource Center.

**Note:  Teachers will be provided a box lunch during workshop

11:30-12:15pm

Box lunch will be provided for students

12:15-1:00pm

Science on the Sphere presentation for teachers and students

1:00-4:00pm

NASA’s GSFC campus tour

Science Fair Projects

On the registration form, please indicate how many posters you will be bringing. Posters should be no more than 24" x 36." 

Hotel Accommodations and travel to NASA’s GSFC

For hotel accommodations and access to NASA's GSFC campus, during the registration process, we are asking for specific information. Please be prepared to provide:

 - Adults (18+): full name, gender, country of origin and valid ID or passport. If not a U.S. Citizen, a three-week advance notice is needed to clear security and background checks. Federal laws state that only U.S. citizens can enter the campus without prior permission by the government facility. 

 - Students under the age of 18: full name and gender.

There are 30 rooms blocked at the Courtyard by Marriott in Silver Spring, MD for this event.   Each room has 2 queen/double beds.  On the registration forms, please indicate rooming assignments.

Participant Travel Support

Teachers, please contact your sponsoring GLOBE Partnership for travel funding information. Partners will pay their own travel and receive a reimbursement after filling out the proper paperwork.

Hotel accommodations on March 10th and 11th will be provided for Partnership-sponsored teachers and students. Dinner on March 10th and breakfast, lunch and dinner on March 11th will be provided for all participants.
