Girl Scouts Citizen Science Journey

In today’s GLOBE Mission Mosquito webinar (Jan 23), Oscar Garza shared his work with Leon Valley Public Library and noted in the chat that there were Girl Scouts at one of their events.
 
I wanted to share some info about the Girl Scouts Think Like a Citizen Science initiative with SciStarter. Girl Scout Troops doing the citizen science Journey can pick from small number of projects on SciStarter to do, which currently include two GLOBE Observer protocols – Mosquito Habitat Mapper and Clouds. The Citizen Science Journey is for K-5 level Girl Scouts (Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors), but I understand that there are plans to open this up to older girls sometime this year (and will post an update when it is). This is a USA project, but some of the resources may be of interest to those outside the U.S.

They have meeting aids, a video tutorial, and other resources including a welcome video from the GLOBE Mission Mosquito scientist, Dr. Rusty Low - a former Girl Scout herself!
 
The following is noted in the Scistarter FAQ: For a Girl Scout volunteer/leader who is leading the journey, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you click the link located in the Volunteer Toolkit (VTK) to navigate to SciStarter and set up your user account. If you are unable to access the VTK online, ask your Council staff for the PDF version of the Journey materials.
