What an exciting start to the new school year!  I am a 6th grade AMSTI science teacher in Alabama.  This real life event is one of the standards we must teach.  Also, an AMSTI unit we teach is Researching the Sun-Earth-Moon System, STC Secondary. During this unit students create student choice projects on solar and lunar eclipses.  With a real life event occurring, projects will be based on experience as well as knowledge gained.  Student choice projects must include a 3D model as well as informative presentation.  Students will document eclipse observiations in his/her science journal to use when creating the 3D model.  Fortunately for me my parents live in Lander, Wyoming.  This location is a premiere location for observing the elclipse.  My parents are going to video this event from Lander so that we can watch it in Enterprise, Alabama.  Students can compare the two observations for similarities and differences.  Before, during, and after this event, I will be facilitating information and students will complete investigations from the unit: Researching the Sun-Earth-Moon System, STC Secondary.

I can't wait to share this opportunity with my students!
