Not all — but most of the carbon in gasoline gets converted to CO_2, and this was a rough estimate. If you go on the Web and look for “Gasoline Combustion Products” you will find many entries that have similar answers, again because they are focusing on the most important products.

I agree — and we seem to be moving in that direction, by trying hybrids and hydrogen cars.

Sorry, I’m confused. Does all the carbon in gasoline become carbon dioxide? What about the smoke that comes out of the exhaust pipe? There must be something that would bind to the carbon more readily than O2… it would be nice if they could change the exhaust product of cars.
