Christine Cote, GLOBE United States Educator, Accepted into UNITAR Fellowship
Congratulations
to Christine Cote, a GLOBE U.S. educator and virtual science club
advisor for the Global STEM Education Center U.S. GLOBE Partnership,
for being accepted into the Global Diplomacy Initiative (GDI)
Fellowship program at the United Nations Institute for Training and
Research (UNITAR). Christine will participate in the spring 2025
cohort, which runs from 12 March to 27 June 2025.
Christine Cote received her bachelor’s degree from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and her master’s degree in Education from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. She has over 20 years of experience in education and is currently teaching courses in technology, engineering, and chemistry at the Whitinsville Christian School in Linwood, Massachusetts.
Christine has considerable experience in global STEM education and has worked with the Global STEM Education Center since 2014. In collaboration with Larisa Schelkin, the GLOBE Implementation Office’s workforce training and education expert and STEM education policy specialist, Christine has completed projects focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and incorporated GLOBE protocols into the high school curriculum. These projects were recognized by the Massachusetts Computer Using Educators organization in 2019 for their uniqueness and the exemplary work of students. She is currently including GLOBE protocols in the study of engineering as well as chemistry and feels the opportunity to include real-world data is extremely valuable, both for the study of science but also as it emphasizes the experience of being a global citizen.
Christine continues to work toward developing her skills and aspires to expand her international communication and collaboration skills. She is extremely proud to have been accepted into the GDI at UNITAR.
I have been very blessed to have worked with so many amazing teachers who have helped me grow as an educator, but the person who has had the biggest influence on my education career has been Larisa Schelkin. She has inspired me and shown me the importance of both scientific diplomacy and discovery, but also the impact of cultural awareness. Thank you so much Larisa.
