GLOBE Thanks Spring 2022 Tree Height and Land Cover IOP Participants
The GLOBE Program would like to thank everyone who participated in the Spring 2022 GLOBE Tree Height and Land Cover Intensive Observation Period (IOP), which ran from 22 April through 22 May 2022. The IOP was led by the The Trees Around the GLOBE Student Research Campaign. The IOP had many amazing collaborators who were responsible for promoting the IOP across GLOBE countries. These collaborators were the GLOBE European Phenology Campaign, UNEP/GRID-Warsaw Centre (coordinator of GLOBE Poland), and the Urban Heat Island Effect - Surface Temperature Field Program.
During the IOP, there were 2,564 tree height observation from 983 locations in 26 GLOBE countries, and 405 land cover observations from 215 locations in 16 GLOBE countries. Please see the graphic below.
Everyone, from students to educators to citizen scientists participated in the IOP by collecting tree height and land cover observations using traditional GLOBE protocol observations and/or The GLOBE Program’s app, GLOBE Observer Land Cover and Trees tools. All the GLOBE observations added significantly to the GLOBE database and provided vital data for GLOBE student researchers, as well as professional researchers, looking for tree height and land cover data from around the world.
The GLOBE Program would like to thank everyone who participated in the IOP!
