Highlighting the "I am a Data Scientist" Badge for the 2025 IVSS Theme
In celebration of GLOBE’s 30th anniversary and the wealth of data submitted to the GLOBE database by the community over the past 30 years, the “I am a Data Scientist” badge is the highlighted badge for the 2025 International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS) theme “30 Years of GLOBE: Understanding the Past, Present, and Future.” The 2025 IVSS encourages students to access and analyze data from the GLOBE database as part of their IVSS projects in 2025 and is part of the 30 Years of GLOBE Campaign: Comparing Data Past and Present.
To earn the data scientist badge, students must incorporate data from the GLOBE database into their 2025 research projects. Analyzed GLOBE data can be from any part of the world, any time period, or any length of time, and can be compared to newly collected data or as the primary source of GLOBE data used to investigate a research question. Students are encouraged to visit the IVSS Badges page to review the requirements for earning the “I am a Data Scientist” badge, which include:
-
Data tables that display data retrieved from the GLOBE database and any student-collected data, if new data are collected
-
An analysis of data in the form of graphs or other visualizations
-
A discussion of students’ data analysis and conclusions
Earning the “I am a Data Scientist” badge is a requirement for entry into a stipend drawing, which can be used to offset the cost of attending the 2025 GLOBE Annual Meeting Student Research Experience, to be held in the USA in July 2025. Visit the IVSS Stipend page to learn more and explore reports from past IVSS stipend recipients.
