Letter to the Community
Hello Everyone!
I recently visited Togo, where I took part in the 2018 Africa Regional Meeting as well as the Regional Mosquito Training (RMT) - the last of three regional trainings that took place as part of the GLOBE Zika Education and Prevention project, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. More than 100 representatives from 49 GLOBE countries attended the RMTs:
- in Hanoi, Vietnam, with participants from 15 GLOBE countries in the Asia and Pacific Region, 10-11 May;
- in Lima, Peru, with participants from 17 GLOBE countries in the Latin America and Caribbean Region, 22-32 May; and
- in Lomé, Togo, with participants from 17 GLOBE countries -- Africa Region RMT 07-08 June.
Here I am, at the most recent training in Togo with country coordinators, public health officials, other GIO staff, and mosquito training experts.

I returned last week to find my staff working full-tilt to put the finishing touches on planning for the GLOBE Learning Expedition, 01-06 July, in Ireland. Next week we'll be headed to Killarney to check that everything is on track at the Gleneagle Hotel and in Killarney National Park to make this one of the most memorable GLOBE events yet.
We reached capacity for the GLE ahead of the deadline. We will have more than 400 people from 40 countries in attendance. The various strands include teacher professional development sessions, science storytelling for students, and mosquito presentations from students. We have several trips into Killarney National Park planned for our field studies, and we even put in a request for good weather!
If you will be planning to attend the event, be sure to read all the correspondence coming to you from our office. Note that we have created a fast and easy way for you to share your photos during the GLE. (You'll hear more about that at the GLE and instructions will be posted soon on the GLE webpage.)
