Get Your Head in the Clouds! NASA GLOBE Cloud Challenge 2022 Has Begun!
Â
A new year, a new challenge! It's time to get your head in the clouds and help NASA scientists! The NASA GLOBE Cloud Challenge 2022: Clouds in a Changing Climate is on! The challenge began on 15 January 2022 and will run through 15 February.
There are two ways to contribute to this citizen science effort:
- Submit your own cloud observations using The GLOBE Program’s GLOBE Observer App. (Remember to always be safe and follow local guidelines while observing.)
- Participate from the comfort of your home through NASA GLOBE CLOUD GAZE. (Using this project on the Zooniverse online platform, you can identify cloud types and other phenomena in photos taken by GLOBE participants.)
The GLOBE Clouds team would also like to get as many satellite matches as possible during the cloud challenge. The goal is to reach 20,000 matches by timing your cloud observations!

Social Media During the Cloud Challenge
Tune in to social media (both NASA Earth and The GLOBE Program) during the challenge period for some special products. Each Friday look for Instagram Reels with NASA, GLOBE, and NOAA scientists (Dr. Patrick Taylor, CERES; Dr. Denise "Skye" Yost, GLOBE Assistant Director; Dr. Xia Kai, CALYPSO; Dr. Yolanda Shea, CLARREO; and Dr. Daniel Lindsey, Program Scientist GOES-R). On Wednesdays, look for activity demo videos with GLOBE educators (Emily Hollyday and students from West End Secondary School, New York, New York, USA; and Dr. Caryn Long and students from Montverde Academy, Montverde, Florida, USA). In addition, there will be a reporting-style video from GLOBE Student Vloggers on clouds and the climate from their locations around the world.
