GLOBE Oman: Omani Students and Educators Attend Annual Forum in Al Dhahirah Governorate
Under the patronage of the directorate general of education and
in the presence of Ahmed Al Blushi, the national coordinator of the
GLOBE Program in Oman, and Badr Al Maamari, the coordinator of the
GLOBE Oman in Dhahirah Governorate and a member of the Science Working
Group, the annual GLOBE Program forum for schools in Dhahirah
Governorate was held on 7 January 2025.
Fifty students from four schools participated in the event held at the Asma Bint Omais School. The forum included a presentation of student Malak’s experience in the GLOBE Program and featured a video showcasing Dhahirah Governorate's achievements in the program. Attendees then moved to an accompanying exhibition, which featured participants from a wide range of governmental and private sectors working in the field of environment, in addition to students presenting their research they had entered into GLOBE Program research competitions.
The forum also included training sessions for students on the GLOBE Atmosphere, Hydrosphere, and Pedosphere Protocols, which were conducted in the school garden. Regarding the significance of this forum, Ahmed Al Balushi stated that it marks the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the GLOBE Program and the 15th anniversary of its implementation in the Sultanate of Oman.
In addition, the students attended a recycling workshop aimed
at transforming waste into useful items that can be reused, thereby
protecting the environment from waste disposal, which can cause
significant environmental harm.
Participating students and educators expressed their appreciation for the forum, noting that it enhanced their knowledge and skills in implementing the GLOBE Program. They also highlighted the value of constructive dialogue with government institutions dedicated to protecting wildlife in the Sultanate of Oman.
