GLOBE Oman: Students and Adults Participate in Omani Agriculture Day and North Sharqiyah GLOBE Forum
Over the past few months, members of GLOBE Oman in the North Sharqiyah Governorate, including students, educators, and supervisors, have taken part in events that increased their knowledge of GLOBE protocols and allowed for collaboration across Omani schools.
Omani Agriculture Day
On Omani Agriculture Day, which fell on 31 October 2024, the GLOBE environmental team in North Sharqiyah Governorate organized activities in collaboration with schools participating in the program. The events included planting wild trees to increase local vegetation cover and organizing awareness workshops for students to promote environmental awareness and the importance of preserving Oman's environment.
Program protocols, including Pedosphere, Hydrosphere, Atmosphere, and Land Cover, were successfully implemented, highlighting their connection to trees and methods of preserving them. More than 500 students from various schools across the governorate participated in this initiative.
Additionally, the events featured a campaign to clean natural areas to reduce pollution and teach new generations the importance of recycling and preserving natural resources. The following schools participated in this event: Al-Thabiti School, Sayh Al-Afia, Abdul-Rahman bin Abi Bakr, and Al-Hawari bin Muhammad Al-Azdi.
North Sharqiyah GLOBE Forum
Then, on 31 December 2024, the GLOBE team in North Sharqiyah Governorate organized a forum for all GLOBE schools, involving 40 participants from various schools across the governate. Educators, students, and supervisors attended the sessions at Baad Basic Education School. Specialized and practical workshops were conducted on various GLOBE protocols, including those for soil, water, atmosphere, and vegetation cover. Students and teachers collaborated on observations under the supervision of Dr. Ishaq Al-Jabri, the program supervisor for GLOBE, who also presented a workshop on GLOBE's practical research.
Participants left the forum with a greater knowledge of the
GLOBE Program, and how to use various scientific tools to implement
the protocols.
