GLOBE Oman: Video Shows GLOBE Students Applying Land Cover Protocols at Muscat Schools
GLOBE schools in
Oman’s Muscat Governorate collaborated in February 2025 to train
educators and students to implement the GLOBE Land Cover protocol in
two locations in Muscat: Qurayyat Park and Qurum Park. During the
training, participants learned about the importance of the protocol
and how they can use it to monitor changes in the environment.
Students also learned about the Modified
UNESCO Classification (MUC) system—used by the GLOBE Program to
identify and classify land cover types. They learned how to select the
areas required for study, determine ground cover and tree density, and
record observations in the protocol form. Tree heights were also
studied, and the GLOBE Observer app was used to record observations.
The experience was video-recorded under the supervision of the program coordinator for Muscat Schools in Oman to share with GLOBE colleagues around the world. View the video.
