GLOBE Students Participate in Astronomy Competition in the Sultanate of Oman
The GLOBE Team at Ibri Basic Education School (Oman) organized an astronomical observatory event as part of enriching the team’s knowledge and skill set on 14 December 2023. Abdullah Al Farsi, who specializes in astronomical observation, participated in the event.
The event included observing stars and meteors using a telescope. This event comes within the framework of learned earth science and shows what astronomical bodies are affected by other planets. The students learned how ancient Omani people used the stars to know directions and track the seasons, thus they were able to determine the appropriate time to plant trees and crops.
The event also included cultural competitions about the environment, as well as a drawing competition, where the students who won the competitions were honored.
