GLOBE Students Study the Effect of Plants in Reducing Environmental Pollutants

GLOBE students in the South Batinah Governorate (Sultanate of Oman) studied the effect of local plants in reducing environmental pollutants. The students visited Sultan Qaboos University's central laboratory to conduct their research.

During this visit, devices from the laboratory center were used to look at different components of Omani plants. The students were able to identify those plant parts and how to benefit from them. They learned about the ways these plants protect the land and reduce pollution resulting from chemicals in local industries.

Through this visit, members of the Omani GLOBE Program seek to find partnerships with various entities that support environmental research.

This project deals with the study of the impact of the plant in several aspects:

  • Studying the components of the plant to identify its importance scientifically
  • Studying its impact on eliminating some plant diseases
  • Studying its effect such as expelling insects and others
  • How can this plant be used as an alternative to some industrial compounds to reduce air pollutants

The students found solutions to some environmental problems and followed a clear plan of study with the help of applying some Protocols from The GLOBE Program, analyzing the results, collecting images, completing various diagrams, and providing recommendations and references.
