The Effect of Wastewater on Ibri, Oman's Well Water
GLOBE student Mais bint Hatem Al-Hadrami (Amjad Oman School)
prepared a study on the effect of wastewater on well water in the
Al-Dubaishi area in the Wilayat of Ibri, Oman.
With the help of teacher Mai bint Suleiman Al-Sawafiya,
Al-Hadrami used GLOBE's Hydrosphere Protocol. Through the decrease in
the percentage of dissolved oxygen in the water of the wells, she
concluded that there was contamination in the water in some wells that
were tested. For further research, samples of the water were taken and
examined in a laboratory where it was found that there were some types
of bacteria present. Thus, it became clear that these wells are only
suitable for irrigating crops and not for direct human consumption.
