U.S. Schools Competition

U.S. Schools Competition for the GLOBE Learning Expedition
New Delhi, India 4 - 8 August 2014

The following information was presented to inform and recruit student research teams

23 December 2013

The GLOBE Program Office is pleased to announce the U.S. competition to select up to five student teams to represent the United States at the 2014 GLOBE Learning Expedition (GLE) in India. Each team will consist of 2-4 students accompanied by a teacher-chaperone. All travel (excluding passport and visa costs) and hotel expenses for the winning teams to attend the GLE will be covered by GLOBE. GLOBE student reports are due 21 April 2014 to be considered for the competition.

The GLOBE Program Office is currently assembling a Research Competition Review Team comprised of a panel of Earth system scientists from the GLOBE International Scientist Network, NASA, UCAR and other organizations that will select the winning U.S projects. Selection will be based on the merit of the students' written presentations of their team research project (see the 2014 GLE U.S. Competition Rubric). The winners' costs associated with their attendance at the GLE will be covered by the GLOBE Program Office.

The GLE will provide a forum for teams of students to present the results of their GLOBE research projects. It also will provide an opportunity for students to meet and interact with GLOBE scientists and other GLOBE students from around the world. Student teams will be required to give both oral and poster presentations at the GLE. Their written reports will be included in the GLE proceedings.
