Tutorial: Student Accounts

GLOBE student accounts are a great way to help your students enter, submit and visualize their GLOBE data. These accounts also help teachers manage their students' GLOBE protocol observations as well as organize data collection events. To learn more about creating and managing GLOBE student accounts, you can follow the tutorial guides below.

Important: You must have a GLOBE teacher account to create a GLOBE student account.
 



Create a Student Account

  1. Sign in to the GLOBE website
  2. At the top of the page, on the right, select your profile photo
  3. Select "My Page"
  4. Next to the "My Students/Team Members" subhead, select "Manage Student Accounts"
  5. Select "Create New Accounts"
  6. Select the number of student accounts you want to create 
    • Tip: You can create up to 20 student accounts at once, with a maximum of 300 student accounts per teacher account.
  7. If you want to add the accounts to a GLOBE team: 
    • Select which team you want to add the accounts to
  8. Select whether the automatically generated account screen names will be earth science-themed or a random collection of numbers and letters
  9. Select "Preview Accounts"
  10. If you want to change the passwords on the students accounts:
    • Modify the "Password" field for each account
  11. Select "Create Accounts"
     


Allow Students to Change Their Account Settings

  1. Follow steps 1 - 4 in Create a Student Account
  2. Select "Account Settings Access"
    • Select "Enable" to allow students to change their screen name and password
    • Select "Disable: to restrict students from changing their screen name and password
       

 

Updating the Password on Student Accounts

  1. Follow steps 1 - 4 in Create a Student Account
  2. Select "Manage Existing Accounts" 
  3. Select the account you want to modify
  4. Change the account's screen name and password
  5. Select "Update Account"

Note: When the screen name for a GLOBE student account is updated, their email address for the GLOBE site is also updated.
