The South Dakota Discovery Center is pleased to announce the Northwest Region Student Research Symposium will be held at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology June 1-2.
Teams of up to three middle or high school students are invited to present a GLOBE based research project (or question investigation if research project is too intimidating). Students from the Northwest GLOBE Region (SD, ND, NE, MT, WY, ID, OR, WA, AK) are invited to participate.
Funding is available to cover transportation to the event. Room and board will be provided on the campus. To indicate initial interest and/or to get on the list to be considered for funding, complete this Google Form.
A stipend is available for the chaperoning classroom teacher (South Dakota only).
Support resources for educators are available. Bonus: contact hour certificates are available if you watch and reflect on the webinar.

A reminder about stipend opportunities for South Dakota GLOBE trained teachers.
February is Site Set Up Stipend. Before you can set up a site on your computer, you will need to know which protocol you want to do, a GPS that records lat/long in decimal degrees and elevation in meters, and a site definition sheet.
GLOBE has an online tutorial on how to create a site on your computer. We encourage you to set up a site that you might use in April/May our next stipend challenge.
Please let me know when your site is set up. Sites must be set up by February 28.
The April Stipend is data collection. Use the site you set up in February to collect and report data with your students from March 1 - April 30. If you need coaching or just someone to talk things through email me or call me at 605-224-8295.
Project Learning Tree and Elementary GLOBE

K-5 teachers, this is a two-fer workshop. On Saturday, participate in a training to receive an award winning curriculum from Project Learning Tree. You will have over 100 quality activities to use when you take your class outside.
On Sunday, dive into Elementary GLOBE and learn how to conduct investigations using important disciplinary core ideas such as weather, seasons, water, soil and earth systems. Receive a set of the Elementary GLOBE story books.
Stipends offered for those who attend both sessions.

National Geographic Certified Educator

While not technically a GLOBE program, you can use GLOBE activities that you have adapted to your classroom in your required capstone.
