Uruguay celebra 30 años en GLOBE con actividades educativas y la visita de la Coordinadora Regional
Del 7 al 12 de abril de 2025, Mariana Savino, Coordinadora de la Oficina Regional de GLOBE para América Latina y el Caribe (GLOBE LAC), visitó Uruguay con motivo de la celebración del 30° aniversario del país en el Programa GLOBE. Uruguay es uno de los países más activos y comprometidos con la red en la región, con una amplia trayectoria de participación e innovación educativa.
Durante la visita, Mariana trabajó junto a la Coordinadora
Nacional de GLOBE Uruguay, Andrea Ventoso, en actividades con escuelas
de Canelones. En el Instituto Adventista del Uruguay, se realizaron
prácticas del protocolo de Atmósfera con la profesora Shirley Harreguy
y las maestras Ana Rodríguez y Escarlent Daniela López, junto a 17
estudiantes de 4.º y 5.º año de primaria. La actividad incluyó una
medición práctica de temperatura superficial en diferentes superficies
del patio escolar, como cemento y pasto corto.
También visitaron la Escuela Rural N.º 88 "Alfredo Nobel",
donde trabajaron con el maestro director Darío Greni, el maestro Juan
Martínez y la maestra Yania Pedrazzi. Allí dialogaron sobre la
metodología de trabajo y los proyectos que desarrollan con los grupos
de 3.º a 6.º año. Los docentes compartieron experiencias de años
anteriores, así como los proyectos presentados este año al IVSS, entre
ellos uno sobre macroinvertebrados liderado por el grupo de 6.º año.
En el marco de ese proyecto, el maestro desarrolló un juego educativo
de preguntas y respuestas sobre la hidrosfera y sus protocolos,
integrando ciencia y juego de forma creativa. En esta ocasión, los
exalumnos del Colegio Juana Bazzino, Bruno Acevedo, Micaela Burroso y
Franchesca Briozzo participaron del encuentro para compartir sus
experiencias en GLOBE, donde han participado activamente en años
anteriores. Asistieron a la Reunión Anual 2023, así como a las
Reuniones Regionales de 2023 en Panamá y de 2024 en República
Dominicana, convirtiéndose en una fuente de inspiración para los demás
estudiantes.
Además, durante su visita, Mariana se reunió con María del Luján Jara, Psicóloga y Asistente Social, quien se desempeña como Directora de la División de Educación Ambiental y Participación Pública del Ministerio de Ambiente de Uruguay. María del Luján Jara también ejerce como Coordinadora de la Red Nacional de Educación Ambiental (RENEA). En este encuentro, se discutieron posibles colaboraciones y estrategias para fortalecer la educación ambiental en el país y se realizó la entrega del certificado por el 30° Aniversario de Uruguay dentro del Programa.
Esta visita fue una oportunidad para reconocer y agradecer el valioso aporte de Uruguay durante estos 30 años de trabajo conjunto en el Programa GLOBE, promoviendo la educación científica, la comunidad y la investigación ambiental en la región.
From April 7 to 12, 2025, Mariana Savino, Coordinator of the GLOBE Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (GLOBE LAC), visited Uruguay to celebrate the country’s 30th anniversary in the GLOBE Program. Uruguay is one of the most active and committed countries in the network within the region, with a long history of participation and educational innovation.
During the visit, Mariana worked alongside the National Coordinator of GLOBE Uruguay, Andrea Ventoso, on activities with schools in Canelones. At the Adventist Institute of Uruguay, practical sessions of the Atmosphere Protocol were conducted with Professor Shirley Harreguy and teachers Ana Rodríguez and Escarlent Daniela López, along with 17 students from 4th and 5th grade. The activity included a hands-on measurement of surface temperature on different surfaces in the schoolyard, such as cement and short grass.
They also visited Rural School No. 88 "Alfredo Nobel,"
where they worked with the headmaster Darío Greni, teacher Juan M
artínez, and teacher Yania Pedrazzi. There, they
discussed their working methodology and the projects developed with
students from 3rd to 6th grade. The teachers shared experiences from
previous years, as well as the projects presented this year at the
IVSS, including one on macroinvertebrates led by the 6th-grade group.
As part of that project, the teacher developed an educational
question-and-answer game about the hydrosphere and its protocols,
creatively integrating science and play. On this occasion, former
students of the school —Juana Bazzino, Bruno Acevedo, Micaela Burroso,
and Franchesca Briozzo— took part in the event to share their
experiences with GLOBE, in which they have actively participated in
previous years. They attended the 2023 Annual Meeting, as well as the
2023 Regional Meeting in Panama and the 2024 Regional Meeting in the
Dominican Republic, becoming a source of inspiration for other students.
Additionally, during her visit, Mariana met with María del Luján Jara, a Psychologist and Social Worker, who serves as the Director of the Division of Environmental Education and Public Participation at the Ministry of Environment of Uruguay. María del Luján Jara is also the Coordinator of the National Environmental Education Network (RENEA). In this meeting, possible collaborations and strategies to strengthen environmental education in the country were discussed, and the certificate for Uruguay’s 30th anniversary in the Program was presented.
This visit was an opportunity to recognize and thank Uruguay for its valuable contribution over the past 30 years of collaborative work in the GLOBE Program, promoting scientific education, community engagement, and environmental research in the region.
