GLOBE Mission EARTH/AREN collaboration: TerraROVER Design project
The TerraROVER Senior Design Team, in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Boston University, successfully completed their Capstone Design project. The members of the team, Dana Bulakh, Jingshuo Li, Ani Pulake, Christian Urteaga, Marcus Wachira, collaborated with Prof Caleb Farny (Boston University, GLOBE Mission EARTH), Geoffrey Bland (NASA Goddard, AREN Project), and Lisa Ogiemwonyi (Wayne RESA, AREN Project), to continue development of the AREN TerraROVER vehicle and the primary goal of improving the vehicle frame and integrating thermal imaging and wind speed sensing to the vehicle's sensor package. The team successfully integrated these new aspects to the vehicle and held a session with the Roxbury Tenants of Harvard after school program, during which a group of high school students tested its assembly and operation.  >>

Boston University AquaROVER Design project
The AquaROVER Senior Design Team, in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Boston University, successfully completed their Capstone Design project. The members of the team, Fahim Rabbi, Lorenzo Moriche Koukouchkina, Natalie Menon, Samuel Haley, and Weinuo Lin, collaborated with Prof Caleb Farny (Boston University, GLOBE Mission EARTH), Geoffrey Bland (NASA Goddard, AREN Project), and Lisa Ogiemwonyi (Wayne RESA, AREN Project), to continue development of the AREN AquaROVER vehicle and the primary goal of adding wind propulsion to the vehicle. The team designed, built, and tested a new sail, keel, elevator, and rudder mechanism.  >>

Boston University Green Down Observations
The Boston University GLOBE Mission EARTH team currently has three different classrooms in Providence, RI making Green Down observations. The partner schools include William D'Abate Elementary, and Spaziano Elementary. The students are practicing their observations (descriptors without explanations) and making predictions about what will happen next. All students participating are in dual language (Eng. and Sp.) programs.  >>

BU Mechanical Engineering students design AREN AquaROVER sail system
Working over the 2022-23 academic year, a group of Mechanical Engineering seniors at Boston University collaborated with AREN and GLOBE Mission EARTH to design sail propulsion for the AquaROVER vehicle and document its build process. Mayukh Bandyopadhyay, Arius Eich, Aaron Wonjin Lee, and Michael Lu worked with Andy Henry and Geoff Bland (AREN) and Caleb Farny (GLOBE Mission EARTH; Boston University) ​​​​​​​to design and implement a sail propulsion system and wind sensor for the vehicle, and to write an assembly manual for the vehicle.  >>

BU senior design teams - AREN & GME collaboration
Working over the 2022-23 academic year, a group of Mechanical Engineering seniors at Boston University collaborated with AREN and GLOBE Mission EARTH to improve the TerraROVER design and document its build process. Darin Sumetanon, Erin Dougherty, Kiran Gomatam, Justin Le, and Darin Sumetanon worked with Andy Henry and Geoff Bland (AREN) and Caleb Farny (GLOBE Mission EARTH; Boston University) ​​​​​​​to improve the electrical wiring harness and vehicle electro-mechanical safety considerations, and to write an assembly manual for the vehicle.  >>

Phenological gardens in Providence Public Schools
The partner schools for the Boston GME team in the Providence Public School District have started their phenological gardens. Two high schools in Providence, Dr. Jorge Alvarez HS and Mt. Pleasant HS, are planting bulbs that will flower sequentially in the Spring, as well as seeds for plants that will flower in the late spring and in the fall.  >>

2020 GLOBE Providence Professional Development Workshop
Over the week of July 20th, 20 teachers from the Providence Public School District attended the annual curriculum workshop run by the Boston GLOBE Mission Earth team. The workshop included hands-on protocol reviews at Mashapaug Pond and curriculum development via Zoom meetings.  >>
