Educational Activities:

  • Weather Wrecker: Teaching El Niño, NASA Wavelength Blog
  • MY NASA DATA Lessons: Ocean Impacts of and El Niño Event and Comparing the Effects of El Niño and La Niña
  • Classroom Activities from educators at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Specific resources include instructions for an El Niño demonstration using common household items, a skit for primary grade to help them understand the phenomenon, and more.
  • El Niño Teaching Box from the University Center for Atmospheric Research Center for Science Education. Their description: "We have collected high quality resources from our program and from other science education programs, sequenced them to help build student understanding, and aligned the collection with Next Generation Science Standards, Common Core, and other national standards. Resources have been reviewed by our team of educators."
  • El Niño Webquest guides students through various online websites, article and videos with questions to help them learn about the El Niño phenomenon. Teachers: contact the GPM team if you would like to receive an answer key.
