Events in our region in the school year 2023/24

Let´s see the overview of GLOBE projects, challenges, activities and campaigns going on in the school year 2023/24. Choose and join some of them!

 

• IVSS – International Virtual Science Symposium - early January to 6 March 2024 projects accepted. The theme for this year is "Climate Investigations: Understanding Earth as a System". Webinar on project requirements and how to earn badges on 5 December 2023.
•  

Campaigns and IOPs (Intensive Observations Periods):

• Year of Climate and Carbon Campaign (YCC) - August 2023 – August 2024

• Trees around the GLOBE - continues to September 30, 2024. Year 6 of the Trees Around the GLOBE Student Research Campaign with participants from 61 GLOBE countries focuses on the theme “Looking at Change Over Time”.

• Autumn Tree campaign - Save the date November 29 for the Phenology Campaign final online meeting “Our Autumn with Trees” (13:00 CET).  Be inspired by school projects and activities collected on Padlet.

• Urban Heat Island - Intensive Observation Periods: December, March, October

• Precipitation IOP - January 10 - February 2. It is connected to the GLOBE Ireland "Rainfall and Flood Resilience" project in which schools connect their precipitation measurements with additional land cover and urban infrastructure observations to explore the concept of "flood resilience" and climate change adaptation.

• ​​Spring Tree Phenology Campaign - February – June. The Campaign will continue with spring budburst and green-up observations, carbon cycle activities, international collaboration and much more. Registration is open from February.

• Air Quality Campaign - March - April. Find out how clean the air is around your school. Share your results at an international online meeting.

• Soil webinar (World Soil Day) - organized by Malta - December 5, 2023, 11.00 CET - international

• Virtual Student Conference of Europe and Eurasia Region - March 6-7, 2024. Time for students to showcase the best of their GLOBE work in a presentation or video. Details will be communicated in the coming December/January.

• Rivers in Spring (World Water Day) – Italy - March 22, 2024 - with an online international dimension​​​​​​​    ​​​​Agenda​​​​​

• Student Conference in the Czech Republic -  April 22, 2024 - open to participants from abroad

• Earth Day celebration in Italy - April 22, 2024 - with an online international dimension

• 2nd Swiss GLOBE Contest - April 2024 - June 13, 2025

• GLOBE Games in Croatia - May 15 - 17, 2024

• Science Fair in the Netherlands - June 2024

• GLOBE Games in Slovakia -  June 6-9, 2024 - Participants from Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

• GLOBE Annual Meeting 2024 - July 15-18, 2024 State University of New York (SUNY) at Fredonia

• GLOBE Learning Expedition in Estonia  - August 12 – 15, 2024 - open to participants from abroad
