GLOBE community meet in Estonia
This week, from April 9-14, 2013, GLOBE Europe and Eurasia is holding its annual meeting in Tallinn that brings together representative from 21 countries, including USA.
The conference was opened by the US Ambassador Jeffrey Levine and the Chairman of the Board of GLOBE Europe and Eurasia Karl Torstein Hetland from Norway. The goal of the conference is to introduce new projects, promote cooperation between schools from different countries and share best practices.
The first two days were dedicated to country coordinators meeting. Each participant introduced how GLOBE is implemented in their country. We could hear many exciting stories of students research projects, teachers trainings and events such a GLOBE Games or learning expeditions. The community also discussed the possibilities of funding and the ways of promoting the program.
Since Thursday, two days of training are going on. First, Jonathan Lang from GLOBE Program Office gave training on the new globe.gov website and its administration which is crucial topic for all the country coordinators. The afternoon session is dedicated to Estonia, during which the students will introduce the projects they are currently working on. The program will follow up with the air pollution topics - how schools can help with monitoring aerosols in their country. The session will be held by scientists who closely cooperate with GLOBE: Elise Hendriks from Netherlands and Ulle Kikas from Estonia.
