The GLOBE Program is proud to highlight the remarkable achievements of members of the GLOBE community who are advancing science diplomacy globally through their participation in the UNITAR Global Diplomacy Initiative (GDI) Fellowship Program, which trains future leaders in international relations and diplomacy.
Empowering Future Leaders in Science Diplomacy
Science diplomacy not only involves collaborative international research but also focuses on nurturing the next generation of diplomats equipped to tackle global sustainability challenges. Notable GLOBE participants include:
- Ylliass Lawani, GLOBE Country Coordinator from Benin, who is currently engaged in the GDI Fellowship and will be actively contributing to global diplomacy at a pivotal time for the international community.
- Yashraj Patil from India, a 2023 GDI Fellowship graduate, who is already applying his newly acquired skills to drive science-based diplomatic initiatives and unite communities through education and environmental science, inspiring future leaders and building partnerships across borders.
These success stories exemplify how the GLOBE Program and the GDI Fellowship align to empower individuals as Environmental Science Diplomats, using education and diplomacy to address pressing global issues including climate change, technology governance, and sustainable development.

Schelkin, GLOBE Implementation Office Boundary Organizations lead and
UN and SDGs consultant, GLOBE partner, and faculty at the UNITAR GDI
Fellowship Program, for mentoring Ylliass and guiding him through the
application process. Larisa has convened the UN General Assembly
Science Summit sessions on GLOBE and as a US GLOBE partner for more
than 10 years has advanced her long-standing commitment to fostering
