Carbon Activity 1 -Tree Growth
The students pointed out that there is a gas in the air that is an environmental pollutant, which is carbon dioxide. In nature, trees absorb carbon dioxide, both in their leaves and trunk. In order for a tree to grow, it needs energy, which it receives from the Sun in the form of sunlight and rain. Trees receive sunlight through a special pigment in their leaves: chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs sunlight and converts it into the energy needed for photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process of converting these two components into a sugar called glucose. This reaction  requires a lot of energy.
