GLOBE Program menu for the new school year 2019-2020


Welcome to the new school year! The GLOBE Program brings inspiring projects, campaigns and webinars. In this overview you can see the main activities your school can join in.

2019 Autumn Tree Observation Campaign is on now!

Tree Observation Campaign will continue until the last leaves fall. Join in now before the leaves start turning yellow.

What can you do?

  • Register by September 9
  • Observe leaf color change and green down, students can follow 3 short activities (register to get those).
  • Share your results at the campaign discussion forum

 

GLOBE Regional Training for Europe and Eurasia

2019 GLOBE Europe and Eurasia Training is organized along with the conference this year, in Trieste, Italy, on October 23-25. The event is open to wide GLOBE community!

The event, which is included in Pro ESOF, will consist of:

  • GLOBE Conference and Training on 23 October
  • GLOBE School Visit and Training on 24 October
  • GLOBE Training and Excursions on 25 October

What can you do?

 

Water Bodies Intensive Observation Period

GLOBE Water Bodies Intensive Observation Period (IOP) will begin on 23 September and run through 27 September. GLOBE schools in all regions are invited to join in this data collection and research endeavor around their local water body.

What can you do?

 

Trees around the GLOBE Campaign continues

The main focus the Trees around the GLOBE Campaign is on the height of the trees, land cover, phenology and the vegetation biomass (Carbon Cycle).

What can you do?

 

2020 GLOBE International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS)

The IVSS is a way for primary through undergraduate students from all GLOBE countries to showcase the results of their hard work by sharing their research projects.

What can you do?

  • Start your research now and submit your research report not later then 10 March 2020
  • Attend an informational webinar at 4 p.m. UTC, on 30 October. To access the webinar, click here . A recording will be available after the webinar.

 

Urban Heat Island Effect Field Campaign

The main research question that needs to be answered is "How does surface cover affect surface temperature?" Students can set up research studies at their own school such as looking at the difference between paved and unpaved areas, such as a grassy area.

What can you do?

  • To collect and submit Cloud Data, Air Temperature and Surface Temperature to GLOBE. Take measurements on 5 different days within October and December
  • Investigate how surface temperature changes between schools
  • check the campaign website
