Lanzamiento del tercer año de la Campaña Estudiantil "Árboles dentro de LAC"
El jueves 20 de febrero se llevó a cabo el primer webinar del tercer año de la Campaña Estudiantil "Árboles dentro de LAC" – Año 3: Los árboles, nuestros aliados: Beneficios para la salud y el bienestar, marcando su lanzamiento oficial.
El evento, realizado a través de la plataforma Zoom, contó con la participación de Mariana Savino, Coordinadora Regional de GLOBE LAC, quien presentó la campaña y la planificación para 2025. Posteriormente, Kevin Czajkowski, líder de la Campaña de Islas de Calor Urbano, expuso sobre la temperatura superficial y su impacto en los ecosistemas.
El webinar reunió a 60 docentes de 14 países de la región: Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Estados Unidos, Guatemala, Paraguay, Perú, República Dominicana, Sri Lanka y Uruguay. Además, contó con traducción simultánea de inglés - español.
Objetivo de la campaña
El principal objetivo de esta edición es investigar la relación entre las variables climáticas y el desarrollo de los ecosistemas arbóreos, mediante el seguimiento de indicadores clave, como la temperatura de la superficie y la presencia de hábitats adecuados para los mosquitos.
Objetivos específicos
- Evaluar métricas de los ecosistemas arbóreos, como la altura y el diámetro de los árboles.
- Caracterizar ecosistemas arbóreos, con especial enfoque en los manglares.
- Describir las tendencias climáticas (temperatura del aire y de la superficie, precipitaciones y nubosidad) y su impacto en el crecimiento de los árboles y la proliferación de mosquitos.
- Promover la comunicación de los resultados a distintos públicos mediante diversos formatos.
- Fomentar la participación comunitaria a través de Comités GLOBE.
- Capacitar a ciudadanos científicos, estudiantes y docentes para una gestión ambiental informada.
Tres temas centrales y tres comités
Se conformarán tres comités de trabajo, cada uno
enfocado en una temática prioritaria:

(1° de marzo - 15 de abril de 2025)
Dirigida a estudiantes de primaria y secundaria, esta
iniciativa invita a la comunidad a observar el cielo, tomar
una fotografía, elegir una nube y dibujarla, para luego
enviarla a la RCO. Las bases serán anunciadas próximamente.
📌 Cuentos GLOBE / Poesías GLOBE
(junio - julio de 2025)
Concurso abierto a estudiantes de primaria, secundaria,
universidad y docentes.
Períodos de Observación Intensiva (IOPs)
Durante esta campaña, se llevarán a cabo tres períodos de observación intensiva para la recolección de datos:
📆 1 de abril - 10 de mayo de 2025
📆 1 de julio - 10 de agosto de 2025
📆 1 de octubre - 10 de noviembre de 2025
📆 (Opcional: 1 - 28 de febrero de 2026, especialmente para
el calendario escolar caribeño).

Launch of the Third Year of the "Trees Within LAC" Student Campaign
On Thursday, February 20, the first webinar of the third year of the "Trees Within LAC" Student Campaign – Year 3: Trees, Our Allies: Benefits for Health and Well-being took place, marking its official launch.
The event, held via Zoom, featured the participation of Mariana Savino, Regional Coordinator of GLOBE LAC, who presented the campaign and the 2025 plan. She then gave the floor to Kevin Czajkowski, leader of the Urban Heat Island Campaign, who discussed surface temperature and its impact on ecosystems.
The webinar brought together 60 teachers from 14 countries in the region: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, Sri Lanka, the Dominican Republic, United States and Uruguay. Additionally, it featured simultaneous English-Spanish translation.
Campaign Objective
The main goal of this edition is to investigate the relationship between climatic variables and the development of tree ecosystems, by monitoring key indicators such as surface temperature and the presence of suitable habitats for mosquitoes.
Specific Objectives
🔹 Evaluate tree ecosystem metrics, such as tree
height and diameter.
🔹 Characterize tree
ecosystems, with a special focus on mangroves.
🔹
Describe climate trends (air and surface
temperature, precipitation, and cloud cover) and their impact on tree
growth and mosquito proliferation.
🔹 Promote the
communication of research results to different audiences
using various formats.
🔹 Encourage community
participation through GLOBE Committees.
🔹
Train citizen scientists, students, and teachers
for informed environmental management.
Three Key Themes and Three Committees
Three working committees will be formed, each
focusing on a key topic:

Highlighted Activities
📌 Draw Your Cloud
(March 1 - April 15, 2025)
Aimed at primary and secondary school students, this initiative
invites the community to observe the sky, take a photo, choose
a cloud, and draw it, then submit it to the RCO. The
guidelines will be announced soon.
📌 GLOBE Stories / GLOBE Poetry
(June - July 2025)
A contest open to primary and secondary students, university
students, and teachers.
Intensive Observation Periods (IOPs)
During this campaign, three intensive observation periods will take place for data collection:
📆 April 1 - May 10, 2025
📆 July 1 - August 10, 2025
📆 October 1 - November 10, 2025
📆 (Optional: February 1 - 28, 2026, mainly for the
Caribbean school year).
