Maria is a bilingual, dual-certified former educator in science and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) with over 18 years of teaching experience, as well as a GLOBE-trained teacher. She has extensive experience in developing educational resources that focus on Universal Design for Learning, and 508 compliance. Her expertise allows her to support her work team by developing resources and offering support to the public across the country on how to implement engaging activities that are accessible to everyone, regardless of learning ability. 

As a former educator, she taught GLOBE cloud protocol to multilingual learners as part of the 2021–2022 Earth, NASA, GLOBE, And Guided Explorations (ENGAGE) Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Mission Earth teacher cohort.

Maria also taught students how to conduct cloud observations using the Globe Observer App/Globe Clouds protocol before, during, and after the Great American Solar Eclipse event in August 2017 and throughout the academic school year(s) from 2017 to 2022.
