Daily Schedule

Theme/ Essential Question: Earth System Science: How are Global Earth Systems changing over time?

Each day we explore ways how we as citizen scientists can help answer this question.

There are individual folders which houses all the presentations, related documents and resources used in the summer PD.

MONDAY

Welcome to the first day of the Elementary GLOBE Professional Development Institute. Let's get to know each other and UT GLOBE Mission EARTH personnel along with our MISSION EARTH partners.

You will learn how GLOBE protocols support NASA missions.  What are NASA's research questions? How does GLOBE data contribute to answering these questions? How can you and your students help in this scientific endeavor?

Google Earth is a great tool to use with your GLOBE data. You will be defining your school site without physically being there.

GLOBE Mission EARTH is a research-funded project. We thank you in advance in for participating in all the assessments and adding valuable information to this community of research!

TUESDAY

You will be taking data  Air Temperature, Clouds and Surface Temperature data. Creating your school site and entering your data on the GLOBE website is very important. More practice on entering data.

Let's take a look at NGSS and your state's standards. Where do these   GLOBE protocols and NASA missions fit in your curriculum?

WEDNESDAY

By doing GLOBE in your classroom, your students become aware of the numerous careers in this scientific community.

You will develop a research question you would like to explore and go through the experience of doing a research project.

THURSDAY

What data will you need to answer your research question? Most of the day is devoted to you working on your research project.

FRIDAY

The finishing line - you made it! You will put the finishing touches on your research project and present your findings to a group of professionals. We continue the discussion on the implementation of  GLOBE protocols and NASA resources with your school partner. You will learn how your students can share their research projects by participating in the following: GLOBE Virtual Student Research Symposium, UT GME "SATELLITES" Student Conference (May 2, 2018), and the GLOBE Midwest Student Research Symposium (TBD at Wayne RESA).

Thank you for attending our PD Institute! Have a great summer! We will be contacting you in the fall and provide support throughout the school year!
