“Community-Led Air Quality Monitoring: Turning Victims into Advocates”

Gabriella Mabayyed

Junior, Biology Major

Tennessee State University

This project is focused on Pleasantville, Texas, where the lack of zoning laws has affected air quality — mostly of low-income minority families. Through the use of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) EJSCREEN database, variables were selected to show health risks and air toxins in the area at state and national levels.

“Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Applications in the Assessment of Urban Population Vulnerability to Coronavirus”

Students enrolled in Dr. David A. Padgett’s World Regional Geography (GEOG 1010) courses conducted analyses of the relative vulnerability of the populations of several large U.S. cities to COVID-19.  During these presentations, the students will share data visualizations of their research results using ArcGIS Online.
