Nektaria has a background in atmospheric physics and remote sensing,  but also in educational research and evaluation. She is an Adjunct Professor at West Virginia University, in the US, at the Department of Geology & Geography.

Since 2016 she has been the external evaluator for 'GLOBE Mission Earth', a ten-year NASA funded program, that aims at the systematic embedding of GLOBE resources and other NASA assets to support STEM education along the K-16 continuum, leveraging existing partnerships and networks. Nektaria is responsible for the design and development of the evaluation process, coordinates the evaluation implementation and reports to the funders.  

From 2017-2021 she was a member of the ‘International Journal of Remote Sensing’Editorial Team, as a Technical Editor. From 2002-2019 she worked at the Department of Physics at the University of Athens, Greece.

She has been a member of the GLOBE community since 1995,  when she was an undergraduate college student at the department of Physics at the University of Athens. She is  a trainer for GLOBE’s four thematic areas (atmosphere, hydrology, soils and land cover). She  was the Point of Contact for Science in GLOBE Greece from 2007-2014. She served in the Science Advisory Committee for GLOBE, representing Europe and Eurasia from 2012-2014.  From 2014 to 2020, she was the Chair of the Evaluation Working Group, again representing Europe and Eurasia. Her work in this group has been related to: i. the development of assessment tools and the identification of exiting resources that can be shared with the community, ii. the collection of data on how GLOBE affects its participants and iii.  the provision of suggestions that can help the program's implementation and outcomes.
