El Niño's Complex Link to the Monsoon
The monsoon in India is sure to be a topic of conversation among participants of the GLOBE Learning Expedition (GLE) in New Delhi next month. The latest prediction from JAMSTEC (Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology), which carefully monitors the Asian monsoons, is for below-average rainfall, due to the El Niño effect. Newest GLOBE Star - Oman Hosts Its First GLOBE Science Fair
The third annual GLOBE Student Gathering in Oman took place on 8 May 2014 in Muscat. Two hundred students, 23 teachers, and 11 supervisors took part in the event to select the winners of the first competition of science studies in Oman. The first and second place winners will be sent to India to participate in GLOBE Learning Expedition (GLE) in New Delhi, from 3-8 August 2014. Read more here.

On 2 July 2014, NASA successfully launched its first spacecraft dedicated to studying atmospheric carbon dioxide. The Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2) begins a minimum two-year mission to locate Earth's sources and sinks of atmospheric carbon dioxide.
