Celebrating Student Achievements at The Best of GLOBE Europe and Eurasia 2025 Virtual Student Conference

The Best of GLOBE Europe and Eurasia 2025 virtual student conference, held online on February 4-5, showcased the outstanding work of GLOBE students from nine countries across Europe and Eurasia.

This event provided a unique platform for students to present their projects to an international audience, gaining valuable insights and feedback from experts, including Dorian Janney, Brian Campbell and Peter Falcon from NASA and Marco Contin from University of Udine, Italy.

"I have become incredibly inspired listening to these projects. Importantly, each of those projects had potential solutions. “What are some next steps? What are some actions that we take as a result of identifying this problem?” And that is so important in science, it's not enough to just say, “we've got a problem” and then step back and ignore it." (Dorian Janney, NASA)

The conference was structured into three sessions based on student age groups, showcasing 25 contributions in different formats, such as videos, songs, and innovative presentations using Story Maps and Bookcreator. This year’s conference also highlighted the best contributions from students involved in the Tree Reporters Challenge. These included creative interviews with trees presented in video or magazine page formats.

The event underlined the students' diverse talents and excellent projects, while also providing an opportunity for them to share their experiences with GLOBE activities. It served as an inspiring platform where students could engage with experts, gather new ideas for their future GLOBE research, and foster a strong sense of community and achievement.

The conference attracted considerable interest, with more than 250 participants from 29 countries, including students and teachers, experts and country coordinators.
The highlight of the event was the recognition of outstanding projects in three categories (Scientific Inquiry, Community Impact and Climate Action), with 13 projects receiving awards.

“We thank you very much again for your appreciation and reward! Our main reward is the possibility to present our job and results, we're very glad to be part of GLOBE community of students and teachers! My students were very excited during their presentation and enthusiastic when they received congratulations. We received from you and from the expert scientists very useful hints to improve our approach to research and we will certainly take them into account.”, describes the experience Sabrina Pelizzari, a teacher at Istituto Comprensivo Statale E. De Amicis Marcallo con Casone.

Celebrating 30 Years of GLOBE

As the GLOBE program celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, students presented their birthday wishes during the conference in the form of a short quote or picture expressing their gratitude for being part of this unique scientific program and community.

“Through GLOBE, we don’t just study nature—we connect with it, protect it, and inspire future generations to do the same. Here’s to another year of curiosity, collaboration, and scientific exploration!” (Mariko Omiadze, Georgia)

We congratulate all the speakers for their excellent performances and thank all the teachers and experts for their vital support to the presenters and all the participants for their comments and for creating a nice and friendly conference atmosphere!
