Quick Steps and Protocol Tutorials
Step 1: Select a site and a tree to monitor.
In this two minute protocol video, learn what is important to consider when selecting your GLOBE green-down or green-up monitoring site, how to choose a tree, and how to label your leaves or buds.
Step 2: Observe your tree.
In the Spring:
Determine if your bud is dormant, swelling, or bud burst. Once the leaves have emerged, measure them!In the Fall:
Use the GLOBE Color Guide to determine the color for each of your four leaves.Step 3: Continue measuring.
Repeat Step 2 twice a week until the leaf measurement stops increasing (spring) or all four leaves have dropped from the tree (fall). Make note of other seasonal elements in the comments field, such as weather, presence of berries or other fruits, or any other relevant details.
Step 4: Upload your data to the GLOBE database.
If you are having trouble with uploading data, check out the Data Entry Tutorials.
Alternatively: use the GLOBE Observer app to make your measurements and upload data.
Both green-up and green-down measurements can be recorded in the GLOBE Observer App.
In this four minute protocol video, learn how to use the color guide built into the GLOBE Observer app to record your green-down data.
