Kilimanjaro Learning Xpedition Begins on 24 September
The Kilimanjaro Learning Expedition has begun! Follow along for eight days, from 24 September through 1 October, as the 21-member Xpedition team makes it's way through Mt. Kilimanjaro's evolving ecosystems to the summit of the highest peak in Africa.
Since 2008, members of the The Xpedition teams have been recording vegetation, air temperature, clouds, surface temperature, relative humidity, soil temperature, and several parameters of water on the mountain (pH, electrical conductivity and dissolved oxygen). The data obtained by using GLOBE protocols are entered into the GLOBE database where students and scientists can access them for visualization, analysis and further research. This information is being used to determining how the ecological biomes are shifting and how much the glaciers of Mt. Kilimanjaro are shrinking.
Find all the information you need to follow along on this exciting research expedition.
Read Dr. Tony Murphy's blog as he prepares for the trip and throughout the ten-day experience.
Follow students and other Xpedition members on their Xpedition Journal.
