How to Access Solar Terminator Data

Terminator observations can be accessed by retrieving data from the GLOBE Advanced Data Access Tool (ADAT). Select the Cloud protocol and the dates of interest. Observations with Terminator in the photo caption were not entered before February 13, 2021.

Once the data are downloaded, you can filter them to find observations with the word terminator in any one of the photo caption fields. The column headers for these fields are:

  • sky conditions:north caption
  • sky conditions:east caption
  • sky conditions:south caption
  • sky conditions:west caption
  • sky conditions:upward caption
  • sky conditions:downward caption

Examples of downloading data and filtering for contrails, overcast and obscured skies and smoke obscurations are detailed in How to retrieve data using the Advanced Data Access Tool for Cloud Research Projects document. The same process can be applied to retrieve data and filter for terminator captions.
