The Office of Research at Texas Southern University established a Partnership with GLOBE in May 2005 with a goal of providing Earth and environmental science and education training to Houston area and East Texas K-12 teachers. Many of the initial schools to be served by TSU GLOBE Partnership are predominately African American, where student performance in math and science are relatively low on standardized tests. TSU is active as a K-12 outreach institution and GLOBE is administered through the College of Science and Technology and College of Education. Training teachers in STEM and education areas is a priority for the institution.
