University of Toledo GLOBE Mission EARTH to Study Algal Blooms in Lake Erie with OH Students and Teachers
The University of Toledo GLOBE Mission EARTH team (GME-UT) has received funding from the Ohio Environmental Education Fund to educate local teachers and their students on environmental issues by visiting Earth Heart Farms in Oak Harbor, Ohio to study the relationship of farm runoff and the algal blooms in Lake Erie.
The UT team, will be working with Vicki Rae Harder-Thorne, the owner of Earth Heart Farms (EHF), and Cynthyny “Bo” Lebo from New Education Options (NEO). Ms. Harder-Thorne’s family-owned land will provide opportunities for students to learn about conservation and stewardship. Ms. Lebo will work with teachers and students on project-based learning linked to conservation as well as Musical LinguisticsTM (ML). Joining the PD will be H2Ohio naturalists, Kara Freimark and Alyssa Yaple for Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Other collaborators include Green Creek Wildlife Society (GCWS), Black Swamp Bird Observatory (BSBO), The Nature Conservatory (TNC), Hablitzel Trust (HT), and University of Akron Research Foundation (UARF); all will be providing in-kind support of the conservation activities at EHF.
