Spring and Summer Highlights from INFINITY Science Center GLOBE Partnership
the Southeast Regional Symposia.
INFINITY Science Center, in partnership with Grace Baptist Academy in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, USA, began the summer by taking two student research teams to the GLOBE Student Research Symposium (SRS) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, with generous and very appreciated funding by NASA and YLACES. This meant a lot to the two teams. They had an invaluable experience with research and were delighted to be able to go to Atlanta. For some of the girls on the team, this would not have been possible except through the amazing GLOBE opportunity. Many thanks to everyone for making this possible and investing in the lives of students who will hopefully go into STEM fields and potentially solve major environmental problems we face globally. Our young people are our future and citizen science helps to develop the curiosity and research potential of students.

Two of the girls who attended the regional symposium are moving forward to expand their research here at INFINITY using GLOBE protocols. They will be working with myself and our new science assistant to expand their research to better understand phytofiltration and phytoremediation in wetland ecosystems. They will be using the atmosphere and hydrology protocols for their portion of the research.

Ecology Scout Day.
During the spring, INFINITY Science Center hosted an Ecology Scout Day. As a part of that day, scouts and their families were introduced to the GLOBE Explorer app and had the opportunity to assist in collecting GLOBE data.
INFINITY is also proud to have been awarded a NOAA B-WET grant for 2019. The grant was written to recruit 15 teachers to train in atmosphere and hydrology protocols to involve 400 students in GLOBE student research projects. More details on this grant coming soon!
