U.S. GLOBE Office Shares GLOBE at North American Association for Environmental Education Conference

Jennifer Bourgeault and Alicia Carlson, on behalf of the GLOBE U.S. Coordination Office, attended the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) conference from 6-9 November in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

GLOBE Exhibit Booth

They staffed an exhibit booth with GLOBE resources, such as the U.S. Partner Yearbook and a flyer featuring the GLOBE science research process poster, and equipment, including a densiometer, sling psychrometers, and GLOBE soil color chart. While at the exhibit booth, Jen and Alicia spoke with educators who have been trained in GLOBE, people who have heard about GLOBE but wanted to know more, and representatives from organizations who are interested in becoming GLOBE Partnerships. They will be following up with everyone to provide them with information about GLOBE initiatives they expressed interest in.

Earth Around Us Tents Presentation

Jen and Alicia also presented, with Susan Cox from the USDA Forest Service, about the New Hampshire GLOBE Partnership’s Earth Around Us Tent program. Forty people attended the session to hear detailed descriptions of the development processes for the soil and water tents.

The main element of the tents is a set of three murals; one set is focused on artistic representations of three soil ecosystems and the other is a combination of student drawings and digital artwork to compare changes in a river ecosystem over three seasons.

Participants also engaged in activities to learn about soil using some of the materials that accompany the soil tent and examined the smaller versions of the murals. Two lucky participants walked away with one set of the tent murals to use in their own educational settings.

The Earth Around Us Tent program is a collaboration between the New Hampshire GLOBE Partnership at the Leitzel Center at the University of New Hampshire and the USDA Forest Service. The tent development was funded by the USDA Forest Service (Agreement 21-CS-11090100-035).
