GISN Members: Pay it Forward! Meet the New GLOBE Activity Requirement and Become a Judge or Mentor for the 2018 IVSS
Calling all GLOBE International STEM Network (GISN) members/STEM professionals – your skills, abilities, and expertise is needed for the 2018 GLOBE International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS). Remember, starting in 2018, all GISN members will be required to do one GISN-related activity per year. Helping the GLOBE community with the IVSS is a great way to pay it forward!
The IVSS is a way for students from all GLOBE countries to showcase their hard work. With GLOBE, students learn the practices of science through hands-on investigations in their own communities, sparking their curiosity and interest in science. This often leads to inquiries that help solve real-world problems and further understanding of our global environment.
As an IVSS judge or mentor, you can participate in the IVSS in two ways:
- Scoring Projects: In March 2018, the GLOBE Implementation Office will need your assistance with scoring all of the student projects after they have been submitted. There will be an informational webinar in March, and judging will take place from 18-24 March. Judging will consist of filling out a Google form with your scores and feedback. (NOTE: You do not need a GLOBE account to score projects.)
- Mentoring Students: We need volunteer STEM professionals to assist student researchers! Students may have questions about a science topic or the research process in general. Please view the "Students Needing Mentors" page for mentoring opportunities.
To learn more – and to sign on to judge or mentor – just click here and fill out the form! You will be contacted in February; however, if you have any questions please send an email to: help@globe.gov.
GISN Members: Starting in 2018, all GISN members will be required to do one GISN-related activity per year. This is a great way to pay it forward!
