New GLOBE Enhancements Available
Jun 21, 2023
The GLOBE DIS team is working hard to make your experience doing GLOBE even better. Parallel to this work, the GIO team has been updating the content on select pages. The following website enhancements are now available.
GLOBE Website Enhancements
- Improved About GLOBE Section: The About GLOBE section on the website has been updated to provide clearer information on what GLOBE is, how teachers, citizen scientists and others use GLOBE, and the benefits of joining.
- New Account Creation Forms: Improved Account Creation forms are available on the website to guide users in selecting which account is best for them. A visual step counter will help walk users through the account creation process. There is a single form for all users on both The GLOBE Program’s app, GLOBE Observer, and the website. Users can identify which best describes them – formal or informal educator, citizen scientist, STEM professional, etc. to allow us to better serve the needs of the GLOBE community.
- New Capabilities for Teacher/Educators: Interested formal or informal educators in the United States who have been approved by GLOBE to complete their formal training to become a certified GLOBE Teacher (now known as a GLOBE Educator) are now able able to take advantage of several GLOBE features before completing their training. These features include:
- A dashboard (My Page) to share your achievements and activities.
- Student Management portlet (on the My Page) to create, manage and track your student’s measurements.
- An active school/organization page on the website to share your GLOBE activities.
- New Informal Educator Organizations: Informal Educators who create a GLOBE account can now request to have their informal education organization become a GLOBE organization. Libraries, science centers, aquariums, etc. can be given a presence on the GLOBE website and can have their GLOBE data associated with their organization.
- User Roadmaps: To help GLOBE users navigate the GLOBE program and website, roadmaps were being created that contain tasks commonly performed by GLOBE members to ‘Do GLOBE’. There’s a roadmap for each user type – Teachers/Formal Educators, Informal Educators, Citizen Scientists, Students, STEM Professionals, etc. Members can quickly learn where to go to complete tasks such as: access your account settings, manage your organizations, setup student accounts, submit research reports and more. Links to tutorials will be available.
- Tutorial Center: All site tutorials are located in one place to make it easier to find the help you need. YouTube videos will be available for many of the tutorials and will be broken down into small ‘chapters’ to provide instructions on how to complete a specific task.
- GLOBE Educator Upgrade Form: Users with a GLOBE Observer account are now able to request an upgrade to a GLOBE Teacher account (now known as a GLOBE Educator account) via an on-line application.
GLOBE Observer App Enhancements
Enhancements to be released in early July.
- Biosphere Protocols are Being Added. All trained users (trained at an in-person workshop or via eTraining) will be able to access Atmosphere, Hydrosphere and now Biosphere protocols from within the app. A new simplified site setup process and an improved interface will make it easy to enter data from any mobile device.
- Create a GLOBE Observer or GLOBE Teacher (now known as GLOBE Educator) account on the App. Users will use the same form used on the website to create either account type.
