GLOBE Collaborates with the NISAR Mission
NISAR is a joint NASA-ISRO
(USA and India) mission. The satellite is set to launch this year. The
mission will measure Earth’s changing ecosystems, dynamic surfaces,
and ice masses, providing information about biomass, natural hazards,
sea level rise, and groundwater. These data will support a host of
applications, such as agriculture, coastal land resiliency, ecosystem
response and adaptation, disaster management, and water monitoring.
GLOBE is working closely with NISAR scientists to develop a NISAR
bundle, similar to other GLOBE protocol bundles. It will include a
variety of environmental measurements such as soil moisture, biometry,
and phenology, including flowering trees. The GLOBE community will
collect surface-based data to contribute to the many research
applications that NISAR data will support. If you’d like to learn more
about NISAR watch
a recording from a recent GLOBE webinar. Stay tuned for more
details about this collaboration!
