GLOBE Implementation Office Welcomes New Assistant Director: Dr. Denise Yost
Dr. Denise Yost joins the GLOBE Implementation Office (GIO) on 04 January 2021 as the Assistant Director. Denise is a marine scientist, educator, and leader who is passionate about GLOBE’s international hands-on environmental science and education mission. “We are excited to have Denise join the GIO team,” said Dr. Tony Murphy, GIO Director. She brings a new and different leadership style that will help the team move forward as it deals with new programmatic initiatives involving revised or new processes for trainer certification, science protocol deactivation, science protocol introductions, and internal communication procedures with SSAI and the GLOBE Observer Team.”
Denise brings to GIO her expertise in transformational education and pedagogy, experiential leadership, and facilitation. She has served in key administrative and service roles in higher education. Over the course of her career, she has developed expertise in theory and practice, drawing on training in social belonging, mindfulness and prevention science to design and implement leadership programs, workshops, and courses for diverse audiences. In this work, she has been privileged to interact with thousands of people and support positive trajectories of personal and professional development for individuals and teams within academic, governmental, and business organizations. Denise is thrilled to bring this experience to bear at GIO, and is committed to serving the international GLOBE community and advancing meaningful work that inspires curiosity, awareness, agency, and equity.
Most recently, Denise served as Director of Graduate Certificate Programs and Extended Learning, and as an Associate Research Professor at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, where she helped the institution adapt and grow during the COVID-19 shift to online learning. As an administrator and Associate Professor at Washington State University (WSU), Dr. Yost led university-wide initiatives dedicated to student success, advancement of pedagogy and faculty development, and leadership succession training. She is currently a co-Principal Investigator on a northwest regional National Science Foundation (NSF) ADVANCE grant focused on advancement of women in STEM, where she continues to advance equity and policy change in higher education.
