October Technology Update
Sep 30, 2024
We continue working through a major GLOBE website system upgrade. Website users will not see likely see results until 2025. Until then, changes to the website should be limited to content updates. Structural changes without our knowledge or approval may cause larger issues with the interface. Thanks in advance.
For the GLOBE Observer app:
- We expect to deliver a final set of changes by mid-October that will allow you to select the genus/species of trees you are observing and send them to GLOBE.
- We will be rebuilding the support for SciStarter users, allowing your measurements to be tracked by SciStarter in addition to GLOBE, along with some additional features and bug fixes.
- Work continues on adding the Pedosphere Protocols. This will take a few months but is finally progressing! The Soil Characterization site setup is furthest along in development, and we have completed the Soil Bulk Density and Particle Density Protocols. We are planning on rolling out all protocols associated with Soil Characterization as “Phase 1” of our Pedosphere release, followed by the remaining protocols.
Reminders:
- All users of Email Data Entry (EMDE) should now be sending data to this new email address: data@nasaglobe.org. The address globedata@ucar.edu is no longer accepting data. Likewise, to practice sending data, use practicedata@nasaglobe.org instead of globepracticedata@ucar.edu.
- If you have a Davis weather station that was setup more than 2 years ago, you are probably using the “old way” of sending data to GLOBE, which also uses EMDE. Please change your Davis station to use the “new way,” which involves the Davis WeatherLink site. Learn more about how to set up your Davis station to send data to GLOBE.
As always, let us know about how the changes are working for you. If there’s something we can do to better support you, let us know!
